AI vs AI amphibious invasions - USA vs Cuba
You all probably already know that naval invasions have been added to the new expansion.
I have been monitoring my present game in the hope of seeing such an invasion in detail. I got lucky, because USA declared war on Cuba early on and i had the hope to see them launch a naval invasion force.
And they launched it .
This is the Global Crisis Campaign on Military very hard. I play Spain, so the following pictures show just a war between AIs.
After USA declared war on Cuba i signed a line of sight treaty with them, to be able to see what they were doing.
There were only naval and air fights along the north cuban coast for a very long time. But at the same time, USA was amassing transports near the Washington DC area, transports that were getting filled with troops. Almost a year after the war declaration, an invasion force leaved the Washington DC area towards Cuba.
This is a picture of the invasion force. There are about 10 more transport units than those shown in the picture. Interesting observations: no escort force, just lots of transports.
The first to arrive to the cuban north coast is a single transport. It is about 1/2 day advanced compared to the bulk force. You can see it heads directly towards the coast, despite not having there any naval support, while to the left three USA naval units have already taken some positions. They get ignored though and the transport lands the units.
LOL First AI landing i have ever seen in SR2020
The reaction of the cuban land forces is inmediate. The bulk landing forces are still far away.
What will happen?

The first landing troops get slaughtered, but the bulk invasion force is already there.
The landing is continuous. As soon as the transports get empty they sail away.
About 12 hours after the first landing almost all land forces are at shore. The cuban army keeps sending many units towards the landing zone. The invasion is in a very critical phase.

It is very difficult to guess the total number of landed units. They must be over 100 i guess. Good to see some artillery and many infantry units. Too many RECs and none supply trucks is what i would remark as negative. Here a picture trying to give you all an idea of the units in this invasion force.
There are still 5 landing crafts north of the landing zone that haven't landed their troops yet. Also you can see the first USA supply aircraft has arrived. Still everything is very uncertain.
Will these invasion succeed and get a stable operation base for USA? Will there come reinforcements in time? Will the USA aircraft and naval command send units to help?
I will continue monitoring the invasion and keep you informed . I think this all is very, very promising.

Re: AI vs AI amphibious invasions - USA vs Cuba
Second day of the naval invasion. The US forces have killed many cuban units and are using the REC units to expand the area. Many supply aircrafts fly towards the invasion area, so this explains why there were no supply units. It is a good decision i think, better to load battle land units and to supply by air if range allows it.
Later on the first city is captured. This is a crucial success for the invasion army. Now supply will be able to build up directly on the island. The chances of a successfully invasion have increased for sure. The city has an air field and barracks as well, though i don't know if this is just accidental or if BG has programm them to search for such cities. I guess it is accidental, it just happened to be there.
The last transport ships land their units and they contain several combat engineers. They go directly towards the captured city in order to improve the repairs. Very good job i must say.
This looks better and better. But still everything is possible. There are many cuban units heading toward the invasion force. Will they be able to send the us forces back to the sea? Or will be this invasion successfull?

Third day of the invasion, the second city is captured. Many others are under attack. An important us force seem to head towards the south ones, including Santiago de Cuba and the military base of Guantanamo.
Siege of Santiago de Cuba. The supply through the air forces is perfect. The invasion force keeps attacking and keeps through it the initiative. To the northern part of the island, cuban forces continue to arrive but they don't seem to be able to push the US infantry south.
Assault on Guantanamo.

8th day of the invasion. Almost all south of Cuba is in US hands, including several air fields, barracks and the base of Guantanamo.
Through there haven't been any reinforcements so far, the US invasion seem to be doing the job in an outstanding way. Not only the naval invasion has been a total success, but a final victory seem to be possible now.

And it worked !! Four months after the invasion La Habana was taken by US forces and Cuba surrendered. No reinforcements were sent, though all transports were called again to the Washington DC area and were beginning to load troops.
AWESOME if you ask me.
It would have worked even better with Destroyer/BC bombarding support and even more if the USA would have used bombers, even more considering the short range to the US coast. But even so, it worked and that is what counts. So AI can invade and conquer now, lets see how much changes this our play strategies .

If they do, I would be very interested in hearing about how they perform.Gonzar wrote:Now i hope, USA repeats it with new enemies, it is quite fun to watch

I am pretty impressed my that assualt. It was acualy more units then I thought they would use. I figured BG would not have large enough landings and we would be on here saying the AI does not send enough units todo an amphibious assualt. But that looked good for me. Lets see if they pull the unused units out of there after the war has died down for a while.

its a good implementation, more arty units perhaps. Perhaps tweak the AI down the track in terms of AI defenses.
I shall test this with australia i think a war against indonesia might be a good idea

I dont think Arty are very good for Amphibious assults. They demand to much in the way of supplies. Same goes for allot of tanks.
