Terrain types for SR2010 had 4 key purposes;

- set base population
- set resources (both potential and some actual)
- set defense bonuses
- set movement penalties

If you check the Terfile.ini in the game folders you can see how those terrain types were different. Since we set that about 5 years ago now I honestly don't remember the differences.
