While its possible he has found a bug no one else found in 2 years, its FAR more likely he simply doesnt understand the research system.

Is this the full game or the demo ?

remember that the amount of money is limited by GDP/c and by # of research centers. He's Costa Rica...

Dude, he says he limited his research to one topic (a new artillery piece) and for months, there isn't a single advance! Plus the money he puts daily is much more then the project altogether

This game isnt simplistic like Control and Conquer (or the basic RTS), the research system especially is very complicated and some of it is hidden from view.

Your friend needs to read thru this section of the forum, the research section ,and get a better understanding of how the research system works.And pay attention to the dates of the posts he reads becuase the system has changed over time with patches.

In a small region, with little cash, low gdp/c ,and low population it can take many years to research a single tech.

What hes needs to do, is learn how to increase the pace of research and how to get the cash,gdp/c and population that is required to do so.

The techs will say just how long they take at the current funding and research situation, so he can see whether or not hes gotten the situation to the point that is favorable to research or not.

It can be done with every region ive played so far.He just needs to learn how.

When was the last time you heard of a Costa Rican military anything? They don't even have an army! And If he's putting all his money in the tech and none in the efficiency, it'll never get finished...

Actually, that may be the only way to finish even a simple tech. I've just tried Costa Rica and found that researching a very simple 100mm AAA took me 150 days with 100% for tech! Research efficiency suffered, but putting all money to tech development perhaps is the only way to finish any research in a reasonable time...

I dont think your figuring in the caps.

Sounds to me like your overspending, putting more cash into the tech part of research than its cap allows, and the balance is being shifted automatically to the other 2 parts (Efficiency,level).

If your efficiency was zero, nothing would get accomplished.

Decided to run a test myself.
Im not seeing any thing thats not working here.

Less than a year in, and i have billions in the bank, solid economy, large army building, made a full alliance with panama.
I also have 2 centers with a third building, and research it starting to become reasonable.

AND to top things off, i think ive discovered a new twist (on an old tactic) i hadnt suspected that makes the game even easier.

Second year over.
I gained 1 tech level,researched 2 units designs (stormer, elite infrantry) and researched 1 tech (depleted uranium).

I now have 6 research centers and am now researching composite plants, which will currently take 120 days.

Im debating building more centers,but decided to fight a war as i needed some action .Honduras is about to fall :wink:
