There r 8 sections of social services, i am assuming some of them doesn't affect DAR. So what does each of these do ? How do u fine tune them?

Infrastructure is key to your region's supply. Always max this.

I think they all affect DAR but I have not read anything detailing how much, or what other side benefits they will have. Perhaps education increases research, but maybe not.

I think education increase the literacy, which then increase the overall efficiency of ur industry. This is a long term effect

Is it worth to max infrastructure?? :o Whats the payback

Supply makes the world go round in SR2010. Your industries depend upon it as do your units.

Infrastructure increases supply efficiency.

They all seem to affect your DAR... and they also all have 'side benefits'.

Some of the social services aimed at helping the lower class help to improve your immigration.

Education raises lit'racy rate (hehe), which in turn helps research (untested)

Infrastructure helps your supply rate for everything, and is worth its weight in gold. If you're going to really fund one area in your social services... this should be it. If you fund it any lower than 100% effectiveness then I think you're insane.

As far as I can tell, environment doesn't do anything extra except have some effect on DAR(someone correct me if I'm wrong)

and i think maybe (not sure) that Healthcare might increase your populations since fewer people die of sickness etc?

Khazad:

That sounds very likely, although I have not tested it myself. It also seems that some areas have a much greater impact on DAR than others. Just from messing around a bit, it seems that Health Care is one of the bigger DAR issues for social services.

It would be interesting for someone to do some more testing with the whole thing, but I get the feeling from playing that Health Care has a large effect on your DAR.

It says so in the tutorial i think, that Healthcare has the most impact on the DAR indeed.

Environment is also, according to the manual, a measure by which the WM "judges" you.
Lowering this can/will lower the WM markets view of you.

Education is also supposed to raise your people average income.Which of course creates a positive chain in many of the nations factors (like taxs)

I manage them with priorities as follows:

1. Infrastructure, for all reasons listed in this thread by others. Without supply, you are so screwed.' I always lock in infra spending at the recommended level, in case my minister inadvertently decides to lower it.

2. Education.
3. Law Enforcement

Those two because I think they have some beneficial effects on the economy. Not really sure though.

4. Health

I hear it has the highest effect on DAR of all social factors.

5. Environment
6. Cultural Subsidy

Nice to have if you have money and jobs to throw away.

7. Welfare

If I want to cut inflation and improve my profits, this is the first 'big-ticket' item to get cut. I feel like a bastard for getting rid of this totally, but then this is just a game :)

8. Family Subsidy

Baby bonus is ATM a dumb idea in this game - I'd use it if it made a difference, but currently population growth is bugged so natural increase doesn't actually occur. Hopefully BG will fix this for update 3, in which case I would up the priority on this.

What is the possitive effect of Law Enforcement on the economy? Does it improve efficency or lower mainenance cost? (sound both reasonble to me). What does the manual say about law enforcement?

The manual isnt much help on this one.
It mentions about 6 things affected by law enforcement:

Crime rates- we dont know what this means game wise
Tourism rating- this one is a good one and helps your rep with other regions and wm.But we dont know how much of an affect law enforcement has in this.
Domestic aproval- dar, pretty standard.I mean, dont they all affect DAR ?
Loyalty- which is not implemented
Espionage- which is not implemented
Destabilization- which i would think is a form of espionage, which is not implemented.

As to any game effects i have seen- none that i can pin on law enforcement directly.

So I really dont have much of a clue here
