Does it make sense to research unuseable things ?

Post by BigStone »

A few topics...

Research nuke bombs in Afrika... but you can't make A-bombs.. ?
Research missiles in Portugal ...but you can only build the "begin scenario" missiles.. ?

Well... OK you can trade the sience... but IMHO it doesn't make sense... :-?

Cheers

Some of these things can also carry forward and be useful in future scenarios of a campaign.

It's still bugging me...

Playing Congo in the African campaign:
Researched - military submarine design - but didn't get
a new unit design.... :-?

In the same campaign your are able to research nuke power and
then build nuke plants so why not submarines ???

Ps: the nuke plants don't use uranium (already reported in the Bugfiles)
so i'm affraid there is something odd about this...

Hey, you got suggestions for a Sub design for regions that don't have one, send it over!

There are so many permutations available that it's hard to track where we have gaps like these. As we do future updates we will continue to work to fill these gaps but it takes time.

And nuclear powerplants do use Uranium, I've replied to your other post...

That would make them German subs sold to South Africa. There are no African built subs to date. We still need to make fictional ones.

If i'm ,for example, playing Benelux in the EU campaign i'm able to research F18 Hornets..
And that is a US design...

If the availability of designs depends on historical bands between nations
in rl... i think the German type S-401 209/1300 (LV75 in the military notebook)
is a nice one to start with...

The Type 209 subs are currenlty ONLY built in Germany so I'd rather make a fictional unit with slight lower specs and price for the region code used by those countries than give it away. The F-18 is accessible to Benelux because the F-18 got country code E due to heavy production of parts in Australia/Finland. Of all the US jets, the F-18 and F-16 I believe to be the most widely sold to foreign markets and with countries like Canada and Australia using the F-18, that seemed the best choice to make accessible to "E" capable regions.

You can also try to trade for technologies such as a sub design once you have the pre-reqs needed.

I'm still playing the first map in the African campaign (as Congo) but
there are no sub-designs available from the other regions.
Maybe later....
But i doubt that... :-?

I want to add to this

is it usefull to research minefields etc which are not in the game. Or the NBC prtection stes, because the AI will never resort to WMD...

do i miss out if idont research it, meaning do i miss usefull techs if i dont?

Since a comment was made about this thread elsewhere...

I'm still not convinced that there should be any subs researchable for African regions until they make it through a few tech levels. These are not countries looking for a submerged fleet or when they do (such as S. Africa) they buy foreign. And most of those countires (other than S. Africa) use the generic "O" class for units. Adding units to that class is something I try and limit as it used for all lower regions and therefore shows up all over the scenarios.

That said, I have added a few S. African ships to the list. They will be part of the next update.

So your saying that you dont add subs to the africa list because there currently not looking to research subs? That doesnt make a whole lot of sense seeing how this game is suppose to take place in 2010. Who knows what theyll want then. Espcially if the world was like how the game makes it.
