F.A.R.P. Upgrade
One of the reasons I don't use helicopters too much is because their pilots do not know how to refuel/rearm on F.A.R.P. units...
I was looking at the unit file and notice that there is an "HeliCarrier" attribute and some upgrades like the Supply Depot and Airstrip have it set to 10... So I deciced to a little test:
I modified the Supply Depot construction time to be able to build them in one day... Then I built one in a very remote hex in the Amazon jungle and send an AH-64 squadron to it... After that, I give orders to the heli squadron to patrol a zone in enemy territory close to the Supply depot but when it was running out of fuel (there was no combat at all), the pilots decided to go to the nearest Airstrip even though the Supply Depot was closer...
Is it a hard coded thing (helis looking for airstrips/air bases) or am I missing something?

It isn't supposed to be, I'd experimented with this at George's prompting a bit after release to see if I could get the helos to land at the FARPs, but it didn't work. George commented that it must be something relating to the pathing/home base routines that are refusing to use anything other than the airstrips/bases.Draken wrote:...Is it a hard coded thing (helis looking for airstrips/air bases) or am I missing something?
Sadly, this one will need to wait for the release of SR2020 to get addressed...

Thanks Chris...
I was just looking for a little workaround until SR2020 arrives...
Do you know if the pathing/home base routines use the upgrade id or the upgrade name to reference the airstrips?

I did compare outpost and supply depot entries last night. Besides the obvious differences, they look the same to me... And they behaved exactly the same when I tested if a heli squadron would refuel in them after a patrol... The helis insisted in going to an Airstrip instead of the outpost/supply depot that where 100Km closer to the heli than the airstrip... Go figures...
As soon as I have time I'll test swaping some ID's in the unit file...

Done. I make sure that the helicopter squadron landed in the outpost / supply depot before issuing the patrol order...
Same results.

Re: F.A.R.P. Upgrade
Wow, a bot bumping a bug report. Doubt that the bot read the thread, but the bug is still there (haven't checked since 5.2.1 admittedly). Helicopters will resupply in any hex that has supplies, but will still insist on going to an airfield if they've managed to run out of supplies. The fact that they get 2 hexes into your territory before being at 99% supply doesn't seem to stop them...

Actually I tested it with Update 3... Same behavior...
