Africa is in such bad shape and technologically/economically/infrastructurally/militarily so undeveloped that I think it'd be uninteresting and see us all spending the entire game simply trying to develop a base sufficient to actually play. :)

Well, to me the europe map is far to "have, have not"
Benelux is like a god region in that scenario, unless they've changed some things.

We could avoid Benelux. :) But, if it's not Europe then the United States looks good to me. I wonder about these large maps and slower connections, though.

Africa represents challenges on all sides, for warmongers and builders, though it probably wouldn't suit the bloodthirsty immediately. It might be better to wait until an extended game could be played (over the course of many gatherings) instead of one 4 hour quickie where someone declares war within the first 15 minutes and its a click fest.

I have no overwhelming opinion really, just that any map with one country clearly head and shoulders stronger than the rest, we give the AI that region. Pretty basic but I wanted that 2 cents out front. :)

Sadly that wont work, it will just make that region the first target for the agressive human players.

The US regions are probably the best balanced, but becuase they start out so many good units and travel is so easy, you can go to war very easy and very early.

hehehe :D what do you mean it won't work? Let's see, noone gets the stuff it starts with, in fact has to blow up most of the stuff it starts with. If they still want it, they have to worry about the other warlike players competing directly for it. All the while, less warlike players have extra time to sort their own situation out while the Hawks are busy elsewhere. Maybe not a perfect answer, but better than a full blown hawk starting out day #1 building on the strongest position, and by my reckoning, better than having a more "dove-like" player wiped out quickly because 2-3 hawks want his industry. In any case, it is a debateable concept. and No, I didn't think just giving the AI the best region would help it compete on equal footing....
Actually I want to just do the random assignment option.

It is 7PM EST as I post this. I will open the lobby within 15 minutes.

Hmmm. Lightbringer, did you check your IP since you started the computer? Some IPs change, supposedly.
