Red and I shut it down around 11:30 est. By no means a perfect experience, but definately a fun one. Thank you to everyone who played and for those with technical difficulties, we'll work through them and try to make MP a much more regular event. I can see that I'll need to A: practice nonpaused combat much much much more... B: rework some of my unit stacks and tactics. (or at least remember that a heavy Arty presence doesn't work well with sub-par AA support...LOL)
Also, thank you Chris for the "on the spot" tech support. And you were correct, Michigan sucks eggs for an early aggressive posture, though I had almost 40 billion $$ by game's end.

Always a good idea, but don't be discouraged by playing against more experienced players. One of the things I've always found good about Supreme Ruler is that if a player does what you did last night (take a more moderate region and make it clear to other players that you're still learning) you will often be left alone. Players like red will know that you are not an imminent threat and will work to conquer the rest of the map and leave you alone. It inevitably means you'll loose such matches but you'll have the opportunity to watch more experienced players play, chose which battles to join, and try out diplomacy in a human - AI combination. I find that the AIs are much more interesting in multiplayer because we humans "mix things up". Notice that last night I started a bit of a domino effect. I had Virginia as an ally then attacked New York. For doing that I got attacked by Georgia who then got attacked by Virginia. The Virginia AI (when I disconnected) had taken a very large portion of the Georgia territory. It was an interesting AI vs. AI conflict.rhjyyz wrote:...I will have to find others at my level play...
As for the AAR, I'll probably post something later, I took a couple savegames as we played and figure I'll also talk about the technical side of setting it up. I may do it in this thread since it will be more information than leisure reading

Don't feel like the lone ranger, I had plenty of "deer in the headlights" moments as well. LMAO I guess that sounded like I actually had some moments that weren't. Like Chris said, I don't think anyone would actually go gunning for the newbs. Red and I ended up cooperating quite a bit in the midwest. It does make it easier to work together when there is plenty of AI to do so against. I'll tell you this as well, any games I host from now on will have pause breaks every 20-30 mins nothing major but a few minutes to catch my/our breath. I think those might have helped both you and I last night.
Chris, the war between myself and Virginia was a hoot...mainly because of your units allied to us both mixed into the battlefield. I will try to post an AAR from my PoV this eve...
