Slowdown issue

Post by bobman0330 »

Strange problem. I can launch the game and start a game fine. The game runs smoothly and with no noticeable lags. Then, after between 10 and 45 minutes, sometimes longer, the game suddenly starts running very slowly. Animations are jumpy, the UI doesn't respond instantly, etc. Generally the slowdown is too bad to continue playing. The shift from normal to slow is instantaneous.

If I close the program and restart it, the game will sometimes run smoothly and sometimes run slow. If I run other apps after closing the game, they sometimes run unusually slowly too, although this clears up in a minute or two.

I have a Dell 1.6 GHz Pentium M with 512 MB RAM, and a Mobility Radeon 9000 (not sure about video RAM). Windows XP Pro.

Any help much appreciated.

Wild guess: Do Pentium Ms cut their speed if their temperature is too high? Whatever it is, I'd think it's your computer, not the game.

You should also be sure you're running the latest version of the game (4.6.1) since a number of performance improvements were added. So far no one else has reported anything like this that I recall...

It usually takes a few minutes for my amd sempron (similar stats) to fully get back up to speed after shutting the game down. but I haven't noticed degradation while playing (aside from larger maps/ more units slowing it down a bit. still quite playable and nothing like a sudden slowdown). What size map/scenario are you playing during this?
