I loaded around 500 of these boms into a b-52 bomber over sized unit, and selected a target to bomb, I liked the idea that the bombs have an area effect, but the 52 never drops them, even when I order him to fire missles he never drops them, I even put him next to the target because I know the bomb has a range of 1km. What am I doing wrong?
My next question is what the diffrence between a Basic missle, and a GPS missle, does a GPS missle have a better kill rate or better chance to evade SAM Batteries?

I'm not sure about the freefall bombs, it's been some time since I tested them, but there is a 4 page discussion about them in another thread;
http://www.bgforums.com/forums/viewtopi ... t=freefall
I didn't read through the four pages to be sure the answer was there, but it might give you some clues.
As for the difference between the missiles, I could not really quantify which ones are "better", the missile dmg by type was never researched as much as I would have liked, most have the exact same damage rating. I had hoped that this would get input from the modders post release but other areas took priority. I hope to see this improved for SR2020 but may be a post release issue (equipment stats will need some review post release anyway, and this is the easiest area to make changes).

The dumb bombs were basically left over from testing and dont really serve a purpose anymore.
The default attack for the B-52 and other aircraft that bomb is based on the dumb bomb.
So when you order a bomber to bomb something, the unit is already considered to have said dumb bombs loaded as its normal ordinace(counted as supplies).
Next ,some missiles do have an advantage over some other types of missiles (in the game) as they follow a moving target and will hit it even if the target has changed hexes, as long as the new hex is within range.
Missiles that are Area of Effect (AoE) will not follow a target if it moves to a new hex, and will just basically attack the old hex.But they attack everything in that old hex.
So depending on the intended usage, some missile types will have advantages over other types based in specific situations based on the gaol and the missiles properties(IE type).
There are a few things that you should look at as far as missiles go in the game, first is the type (of which there are 4-antiship,AoE,ballistic and cruise),next is the damage, next is the range, and finally there is the size.
Picking the best missile is a matter of taking all of these into consideration so that the missile can be fired (fits size wise), can reach the target (range),can do the best damage( of the ones who fit the afore mentioned reguirements) and attacks in the way you want (follows target or not, attacks entire hex or not,is the right type of missile vs the target /IE anti-ship vs ship/structure attack vs buildings/etc...
Be careful if you give your units or missiles launch authority, the AI will shot them off like they grow on trees and pick some very odd targets to boot.
If you are using the fire missile order, you dont need to give them launch authority as its inferred in the order to fire.

One aspect of this to keep in mind is the level of AA your planes and missiles will face. I prefer to keep my aircraft out of range of the defending AA, meaning I choose longer ranges when choosing missiles....But....this means the missiles themselves will face the full brunt of the AA and I often have to fire more to achieve the goal. If you aren't facing a high tech foe, you might go for shorter range and a higher kill ratio, letting your aircraft risk some damage.Tkobo wrote:can reach the target (range)

odd? as far as I can make out they just pump out all missiles to the closes target, whatever it is.tkobo wrote: Be careful if you give your units or missiles launch authority, the AI will shot them off like they grow on trees and pick some very odd targets to boot.

Pretty much as far as standing forces go for low tech regions.Low tech often means low amount of options.
BUT you can research new aircraft that can use missiles also.
Im pretty sure the flanker you can research can use missiles of a decent size.
