New propulsor delivered for Astute
An industry team led by Rolls-Royce has delivered the first of a new-generation of submarine pumpjet propulsors to BAE Systems Submarines at Barrow-in-Furness for the UK Royal Navy's (RN's) Astute-class nuclear-attack submarine (SSN) programme.

New Scandinavian 40km artillery projectile introduced
A new 155mm high-explosive projectile, able to reach 40km when fired from 155mm 52-caliber artillery systems, has been developed by Norway's Nammo Raufoss, working with Bofors. Initially intended to fulfill a potential requirement of the Indian Army, which has been evaluating a number of towed and truck-mounted 52-caliber ordnance systems, the Joint Ballistics Memorandum of Understanding (JBMOU)-compliant round was shown to be able to exceed 40km during tests staged in Sweden in early 2003.

UK plans successor to Spearfish torpedo
The UK Ministry of Defence is considering options for a follow-on Submarine Launched Underwater Weapon (SLUW) to succeed the current Spearfish heavyweight torpedo in Royal Navy (RN) service from the middle of the next decade.
