A Good Website for Military Equipment Info?
Can anyone recommend a good site with high quality photos and information on the military equipment currently used by various countries today? Janes wants me to subscribe, and the only other solid sites I can find are the sites put up by the individual country defense departments (US Military sites, Australian and British defense home sites, etc). Is there a centralized military hardware site? That's free?
I'd like to be able to learn more about the military equipment in the game and see photos of all the hardware...everything I can find online seems to be American-centric (plenty of stuff on F16s and A1s, but not much on other world power's hardware).
Thanks!

We use quite a number of sites, and I think Chris has already posted a list somewhere that he might be able to point to, but for free sites these two are particularly good:
www.globalsecurity.org
www.fas.org/man/index.html (much of the same content as globalsecurity, it was assembled by the same guy before he left the fas site)
And an excellent resource for Air Forces is the Scramble website:
www.scramble.nl
That should help get you started

That ones very interesting...lots of material, but, god, what a horrible interface! And what's with the languages, the site seems to switch languages between pages? Thanks for the link though, it has lots of good info.Balthagor wrote:Actually, a really good one I've found is;

Nah, it is far more complex.Andre_Trbojevic wrote: So countries do release military units they hold? That is literally the most idiotic thing I have ever heard of! If I owned a nation, I would sure as hell make sure my enemies dont know how to counter my equiptment and units!!!
1st, you can't hide a full army. So even with poor intelligence, most of your hardware will be known by your neighbours.
2nd, it is very possible to give "tricked" info instead of perfectly accurate one. So instead of letting the neighbour finding itself what is & what is not, let's give him false - ore partially false - information.
3rd, pure secret is very bad diplomatically. Real world is not SR2010 world(read the scenario, many things have changed...). The economies are so interdependant than you don't want to go at war - even if the chances are you win. And hiding everything makes you a pariah : look at N Korea..... Roman used to say si vis pacem, para bellum. It works well if you are rather transparent (i.e. french army is divided into 16 brigades of 4 regiments each, including 1 mountain brigade and.....). If your neighbours have no clue, they will begin panicking. And might be tempted to solve the problem before you are too strong.
War, about who is right?about who is left!
