Stryker questions...

Post by Slash78 »

First, I noticed the "Stryker-120" in the tank catagory. My question is, should it be available for research at the same time ast the Stryker MGS? My feeling is that should the 120mm Gun version be at a later tech level then the MGS?

Second, I haven't seen the Stryker with the Denel 105mm howitzer in the game. Have I just missed it or have you not added this unit yet?

The Stryker ICV and Mortar are at tech 102, the MGS (which is th 105mm Denel in the AT category) and the 120 are at 105. What tech years are you suggesting?

Ok, there are two Strykers (or at least 1 Stryker and one prototype vehicle based on the same LAV-III chassis) with 105mm guns. The first is the Stryker MGS, this has the same 105mm M68 tank gun that the M60 tank had. The second has a 105mm Denel (a South African Company) 105mm howitzer. This weapon system is current being heavily marketed to the US Army (that hasn't picked out an artillery system for use with the Strykers other then the old M198). The first being an AT unit, the second being an artillery unit.

I would say from the Stryker 120 at least 108 if not 110 or 112.

Pics of the weapon.

I'll try to find some better info on this vehicle.

I had missed that the Denel version was a howitzer, but it is not specified in the equipment list so the 105 AT can be the M68 version.

I'll add a new Stryker in the Artillery class for the Denel 105.

As for the MGS, I think it is possible it will take the US till 2008 or 2010 to develop this but only because they haven't made it a priority. The tech level is intended to reflect the point at which they can start to develop a unit, not the current US dev. schedule. I think that players should be able to develop it no later than 2006 since it won't have stats that put it that far ahead of the rest. The wheeled MGS as a tank is a new concept so the first version can't be drastically different in stats. I could add a "second generation" MGS for ~ 2011 (lvl 111) that would theorize and improvement on the design...

The FCS NLOS-C and NLOS-M are due out in 2008 (whether that happens remains to be seen). Because the weapon is in theory ready for production now, I would recommend 2005 or 2006 tech level. I think it also should be available to Canada and the South Africa as well.

For a name, I think Stryker SPH 105 works.
