The use of entrenchment and the effects of it on attacks?

Post by Journier »

Since im sorta blind to this game feature as of yet, does entrenchment make the units better at defense against regular infantry and tanks, but with artillery wouldnt it make them much more able to be hurt? since they are not moving, they could be targetted and destroyed much more quickly than a mobile target.

No?
Yes?

maybe?
*edit also
Can you build bunkers etc? with engineer units maybe? taking entrenchment to the next level sorta? or is that what entrenchment really means?

Thanks,
awaiting the complete download of beta :)

Entrenchment is a defensive benefit, even against artillery attacks. Any unit that is not moving will begin to entrench, though certain types (ie infantry) will do so at a much faster rate.

There is also an entrenchment 'maximum' for each type of terrain (ie, easier to entrench in a forest than in an agri field).

Entrenchment levels are reduced by artillery hits and by attacks.

The game does offer an 'Emplacement' upgrade as a facility-build option; emplacements not only add a defensive benefit to units in the hex, but they also increase the entrenchment maximum for the terrain.

A unit's entrenchment level is shown at various places in the UI, under a green 'sandbags' icon.

If any unit that's not moving begins to entrench, whats the use of the entrench order, under the right click menu? Does it entrech faster, or is it just so the AI doesn't take control of that unit?

You're correct on both ideas - The Unit does entrench faster and if the AI Initiative is turned on, an Entrench order keeps the AI from moving that unit.
