Forum Updates 2020 Edition
As was fortold by the prophecy of the locust plague and the murder wasps, we have once again run a maintenance /update cycle on BGForums.
Hopefully we didn't break too much. This should provide continued service to our community as the forums soon becomes old enough to drink in many states and provinces.
Also added is SSL/TLS support, meaning that you can now access the forums site using secure web connections on https://
So, using the url: https://www.bgforums.com you should get that nice little lock icon in the corner.
Thank you to our new team member Kristian for the work in processing the update.

Re: Forum Updates 2020 Edition
using current firefox (update 77)
the https site gets redirected to a non-secured version.
Also the new layout looks, quit bad - there is no way to permanently hide some main topics like "general" , "supreme ruler 2020" , "off topic", etc...
it also makes one scroll much more than the previous version.
And the top banner is also quit large - using almost a quarter of vertical space on y1440 resolution!
(First easy solution would be to put the left and right options into the same line, and put the "notification private message..." maybe in the free space there.
Also it is not as pleasant to look at than previous version (but thats quit subjective of course)
Sorry that i had to post here, but in the "Forum update trial" posting is impossible.

Re: Forum Updates 2020 Edition
I'm also finding that, when I click into a thread with a new post, it doesn't jump to the post.
Sorry that everyone is being brought along for the ride, we may have to test another forum layout before we find what works best.

So I think "Simplicity" will be our new default, with a bit of work to customize it to our content.
Anyone tried it out?

Re: Forum Updates 2020 Edition
The picture is a fair representation of what our game include. If you have other ideas, you're welcome to make a suggestion. I'm sure that eventually we'll want to switch the picture just to keep things fresh.
The previous forum is no longer supported by the version of PHP we use, the "bread crumbs" are totally broken (list at the top of the page for which folder of the forum you're in). It needs to be updated. We found very few forum styles that allowed expand/collapse by section which I see as a critical function.
My thought is we will stick with this for a few days, then we will restore the option for players to change their forum skin. That will allow you to choose something different if you prefer it.

Re: Forum Updates 2020 Edition
Remove the picture to save the space for the text/information - the usual purpose of a forum.
Since Interaction with other "leader" is rather limited, borderline useless - i would rather use some unit renders since that is the major content of the game - but only if someone coerces you to put a imo useless picture up there.

Re: Forum Updates 2020 Edition
You probably want to check this new setup something with a small screen like say a cellphone. On my admittedly old phone the Battlegoat Studios text and logo is squished on top of the BGForums text and it does not exactly look good.
