Naval AI Battlegroups

I would like to suggest that the AI puts together naval battlegroups that stick together rather than the default behavior in SRU which caused the AI ships to split up and go out in singular units. These battlegroups could then patrol together. This would make naval battles more interesting and also provide more of a challenge to the player instead of picking off singular ships.

The AI could also use these groups to help protect MM's instead of letting them move around unescorted. This would help them move around without getting picked off constantly.

Also, for ground units too! I see this useful so that the ai sends groups of units in combined arms formations, rather than trickling them in one at a time or sending the massive hordes.

Depending on nation size and military size, and maybe general doctrine (research) utilized, the AI would form battlegroups in either Brigade or Division Size. Could have templates that Ai uses. For instance, if a country utilized Brigades, a infantry battle group would need 3 Infantry Units, and 1 Armor unit, plus a support unit of 1 each of a recon unit, artillery, at, aa, and a supply truck or two. The ai could prioritize what kind of brigades(battle groups) to establish based off of what they see their neighbors are building up. Neighbor A has lots of tanks, so prioritize tanks brigades, Neighbor B has a focus on infantry, so use a mix of armor and infantry brigades. The ai would also automatically replenish units destroyed from reserves too.

I have created battle groups based off of brigades and divisions for China, the US, and Russia. I have generic ones for smaller countries. I would be happy to create more brigade or division types based off of other major countries too.

This is a proposal I already made years ago - I guess it's just not on the current todo list of BG to implement it.

but yeah - carrier strike groups of 1, 2 or 3 carriers supported by destroyers, missile cruisers, submarines, auxiliary ships, etc I'd love to finally see that implemented

Carrier Strike Groups - Centered on a Carrier, a couple of ASW, a couple of anti-air, a sub or two, and a handful of replenishment ships.

Surface Action Groups - Centered on a Battleship or Heavy Missile Cruisers, a couple of ASW, a couple of anti-air, a sub or two, and a handful of replenishment ships. AI mission to seek out Carrier Strike Groups.

Amphibious Invasion Force - Centered on 1 or 2 Helicopter carriers, a couple of ships with good shore bombardment capabilities, a couple of ASW, a couple of AA, a sub or two, a handful of amphibious troop and unit ships, a handful of replenishment ships. AI mission to only launch an amphibious invasion in force rather than trickling in.

Escort Flotillas - A couple of ASW, A couple of AA, a sub or two, AI mission to escort large formations of merchant marines.

Basically this is what I had in mind. I know getting the ai to use carriers correctly might be a bit of a stretch, but just getting the ai to escort it's mm and move groups together would be a good start.

Maybe for game developers of other games yes..

But look - the AI on SR is by far already beyond anything other games have.

When you look how the AI performs amphibious attacks - it does so rarely - but when it does it does so very smart actually.

Which tells me - if anyone can make it work for an AI to use carriers properly - it's the devs of SR that can make it happen
