Important Resources for the Modern Day and beyond
Would like to see these in SR2030 and why:
Water - discussed many times here and elsewhere. Important for population size and food. Shortage of water, DAR will plummet, Agricultural Production will suffer, will need to import food, driving up the cost of food. Damming can be utilized to control water by either creating reservoirs for the country that constructs the dam. Countries that share a river, could suffer downstream by lowering water availability. Could see this as flashpoints for conflict.
Buildings -
- Dam, creates a water reservoir, can create electricity, lowers water rate downstream. (? Can be destroyed and flood an area causing infrastructure and production damage in a radius ?)
Water Desalination Complex (Very Expensive, need to research)
Canals(? redirecting water ?)
Wi-Fi/Internet - addition to road and rail infrastructure tab. Pros: Increases unit efficiency, increase overall production speed and lower costs, can increase DAR, can lower the cost of some social programs due to increased efficiency. Increase education rating. Increase research speed. Cons: The higher the percentage a wi-fi coverage is the higher the hit in damage taken to infrastructure and production when a cyber attack occurs. Cyber espionage would be greater "stealing secrets, ELINT missions". A much greater chance to manipulate elections during voting periods. Everything is dependent of wi-fi/internet, so if attacks occur damaging wi-fi/internet infrastructure, it trickles down to everything.
Buildings -
- Wi-Fi Hubs, placed like a road or rail, but has a radius that depends on the current level of wi-fi (3G, 4G, 5G...), technology research improves coverage range, and efficiency bonuses.
Cyber Security Complex - like the current Intelligence Academy that creates spies, this creates cyber agents that can conduct cyber security, cyber espionage, and cyber sabotage missions. (I can go more into detail about what these three
levels of missions can do if you want me too)
Micro Chips - The new rubber of the modern day! Everything runs off of computer chips. Not saying rubber should be taken out as a resource, but no chips, no technology, we are stuck with WWII units and levels of infrastructure and production. Resource is created by building very expensive technology complexes, otherwise you have to import them, which means choose your allies and enemy's carefully. Beneficial to build in countries with lower GDP. Mentioned in another post that it would be nice for a country to be able to build up another countries infrastructure and production. Would have to add a computer chip cost for units like a military goods cost, or uranium needed for units that run off of nuclear fuel. Pros: Units that require a lot of fancy technology would be superior with stats; however, susceptible to higher maintenance cost. Would also have a higher chance of being targeted by cyber/ electronic warfare attacks. Research technology to reduce this effect (solid state electronics?). Units with a lower technology cost would be generally more reliable, lower maintenance cost, but lower overall stats compared to other units with high chip counts.
Buildings -
- Technology Complex - creates Computer Chips from rare resources (if rare resources is implemented, otherwise, maybe from consumer and industrial goods???).
Technology Recycle Complex - If units are scrapped, chips can be recovered like military goods.
Rare Minerals - Why China is investing soo much in Africa! If put into game, this could be the main resource to allow for production of Microchips. Rare resources as mentioned earlier could be a number of resources, but are mainly used for advanced technologies, micro chips, batteries, advanced propulsion, fusion power(Helium 3), advanced weaponry (tungsten, ceramics, alloys, plastics)
Buildings -
- Rare Mineral Extraction Complex - extracts rare resources
Petroleum Pipelines - not a resource, but an infrastructure item like road and rail that allows for increased flow of petroleum. Can build in foreign countries connecting to your pipelines to ensure that other countries rely on your massive reserves of petroleum and creates a steady flow income into your countries coffers. Can be sabotaged, creating casus beli.
Pollution - Not a resource, but an accumulated cause and effect of having too much production, infrastructure, population. Lowers efficiency, DAR, production, tourism, food production, water production. Dropping a nuke will greatly increase pollution in a hex, that will take years and money to clear.
Buildings -
- EPA - Costly Building that lowers pollution. Makes the Environment Social Spending more expensive.
