How do I edit the 2023 World Sandbox Map?

I'm trying to modify the 2023 World Sandbox map via the new editor and not having any luck.

It is probably my user error but it seems like the map never saves even though the map files are updated in Windows.

I have followed the instructions per the wiki to add the .scenario file to scenarios (though it does not seem to need the custom folder). This works and I can load the map but even when I make a simple edit to test and then reload in the map editor the hex edit does not show on the reloaded map. It also does not show in-game when I start a new one.

Any help would be appreciated as I've burned hours trying to figure this out. I'm just looking to move some US military installations for 2023 World Sandbox.

I have been running into the same issue.
Ether dosent save or crashes.

I was going to copy map file create a test senero amd ry modifying from there.

I was wondering if I was picking the wrong export option. Are you saving as a scenario? (this is what I used) or Wordshop or Map?

Has anyone successfully modified a map in 2030?

I did some playing with this over the weekend, tried working with the mod tools instead of our own development tools. It did take more work than I'd expected, it's tougher to get to the map editor than it should be. I needed to make some changes by hand to get it working.

I'm going to be working with the tool in the next few weeks to try and update documentation and possibly get some changes made to the tool. I'm also looking at making a video at some point. I'm even looking at the possibility of a livestream on our Discord where I can answer direct questions about modding.

There are few things I can already clarify about how the mapeditor works;
- The mapeditor looks for 2 files - .MAPX and .OOF
- The mapeditor looks in /Scenario for files to edit, so your .MAPX and .OOF files need to be in subfolders with the same name as your .scenario file
- A quick way to run the mapeditor is to use Steam's game options, general, launch options with the switch -mapedit. If you know how to make a shortcut to the exe, you can also make yourself a desktop shortcut that will run the mapeditor.

Here's a quick way to get to map editing

First, make your .scenario file by duplicating an existing file.

• From \Sandbox, copy World 2023.scenario to \Scenario
• Rename it to W918.scenario (I just used today's date)

Set up the folders so they have a custom map

• From \Scenario, copy the folder \World 2030, paste and rename it to \W918 (Must match your .scenario name)
• Inside the \Scenario\W918\MAPS folder, rename both the .MAPX and .OOF to W918

Set up the .scenario file to use custom .MAPX and .OOF files

• In the .scenario file, rename the Map and OOF files accordingly

Change file names for the .MAPX and .OOF files

Run the map editor, select your new map, edit away.

Thanks Chris. I will try this as I think part of my issue is I did not have all the files in one named folder.

Chris I followed the instructions (appreciated) but when I try to start a sandbox game with the new map there are no regions to select the US. So, I used the editor to do an export and have the following file

but when I load the map (as I now can pick the US) there are no cities or industries just the blank map.

Can you point me to where I went wrong?

The issue is likely in the &&GMC section. If you use Limit in Scenario, then the file World 2023 Regions.csv gets called to try and determine what regions are playable vs. not playable.

Change limitinscenario to zero while testing.

Thanks that resolved the being able to pick the US as a country to play but I still load no cites or industry.

I have tried a few things. I copied the settings from the &&GMC section in the 2023 World sandbox file to see if that would help but no luck yet. I tried both 0 and 1 for limitinscenario to no joy.

I appreciate the help as I'm trying to move 4 land production from middle America to the coasts to make the US land management a bit easier

I see in the 2030 sandbox folder there are two Excel files (Regions and just World2030) while there is only one World 2023 Regions file could that be part of the problem? Thanks for the help...

I got it to work in the end. I needed the Change limitinscenario to zero and it was not in the default file upon export from the editor. I added now we are cooking!

I would still love to see more on modding as I'm a newbie and could use all the help I can get.
