(1073) Some survey drones show no orders panel

Some but not all of my survey drones are failing to show the orders panel. Well, the panel itself shows, but no orders can be issued, as the order list is blank. (These are deployed drones.) I have not noticed this happening with other unit types and I did not encounter this issue in 1035.

Are you sure it's blank? Sometime a list scrolling issue can occur that it's scrolled past the last line. Scroll up slightly and the list snaps back to position. Let us know if that's not the issue.

Ok on further review of the video where it happened I think what I'm getting is that some deployed survey drones aren't able to be selected. You click the Select Unit button but nothing happens (and so the Orders panel still says "None selected", and the unit doesn't get flipped up to the Selected Units category).

That save is about 15 minutes after I first noticed the issue, but the problem was consistent so it should still be happening even at the point of the save.

Is this possibly related to the ticket 32010 where the selection list stops refreshing properly? If you see this again, could you save/reload see if the issue goes away? We're having troubles replicating the issue.

Did ticket 32010 (selection list stops refreshing) get resolved for main branch 1078? I'm noticing an issue now where if I drag-select one or more units, even all of the same type, the unit orders panel doesn't pop up.

It was not resolved. It's proving problematic to lock down the cause.

I might have at least my version of the problem solved. I should have noticed it earlier. The Unit Orders panel does not show up for units that you *can* control but are not part of the currently selected faction (e.g., they're colony ships and you're in homeworld mode). You can still control those colony ships from homeworld mode (and vice versa), and the control-right-click context menu still functions, you just can't assign orders from the Unit Orders screen.

This may or may not be intended behavior. If it's intended, it's slightly confusing, given that you do have control in other ways, just not from that panel.

We did some testing. From homeworld view you can control both yours and colony vessels. From Colony view you can only control colony vessels (not Homeworld). This is the intended behaviour. Does that clarify things?
