nice travel speed too... Of course you might have to build two or three times as many of them to kill anything with it faster than they can repair themselves... :P

not too bad moneywise either.

Holy sh*t... you've must extended that range for apx 250 %.... :o

Yes, the damage is low.

BUT you can start to hit advancing units at like 10+ hexs away .

Its like the ultimate defensive (vs AI) art unit going IF you got sats at 100%.And nothing like sitting back 10 hexs and stripping out the enemys artillary,which generally takes major damage from art itself (and often retreats when hit too many times).

Damn thing has better range than many AoE missiles :lol:

I still cant figure out how i havent noticed running up against this unit before.Ive invaded china MANY times.

maybe it is like some of the better mech infantry? The AI is too busy building the Arty version of engineers to build many (if any) of them? Some cheap arsed 155 howitzer or somesuch. dunno. The damage isn't uselessly small, hell, put a couple of decent infantry, a couple of decent AA and 3-4 of those in stacks on every bridge and building, and it might be hard for humans to plow through invading you. You would literally be constantly under fire.

(mental note: Make seriouseffort to trade military techs with China. :P)

Advancing against this unit , i found the "where the heck is that fire coming from" effect they have due to their range quite entertaining.

remember also that MLRS units chew through ammo, that is their downside. But yes, thoes have a nasty reach :)

And the damn things can carry a nice amount of missiles to defend itself at shorter ranges also.

So you can load it up with short range missiles, give it free fire, and stand it way back and let it work its magic.
And if some enemy units get lucky and silly enough to get too close, it will simply unload with its missiles.

This is a very nice unit indeed.

the 9K62 soviet system, while not quite as long ranged, has half again more killing power. If you have a densely populated area like Europe you could do as well with it. Maybe even a combo of the two. Nasty nasty nasty visions of massively large overlapping fields of fire. Heck, who needs F/Bs? Just move some stacks of these onto the same game screen. :P (yes I know I'm being silly and over simplifying)

...'bout that Chinese 320mm MLRS.
a standoff tu-22 loaded with Kents can pretty much have their way with them - but of course the trick is to find the darn things. Helps to start your aerial recon runs against chinese turf with a very conservative pattern - the chinese also have a rather effective AA similar to the Russian SA-20, and at least the AI is smart enough to fence the long artillery with AA. BTW - that artillery eats boats too.

Hhehehhe, well ya.

But a good aircraft stack/s with the right missiles will own just about anything in the game.

Those russian sketchs are one of my missile units prime targets :lol:
I love to find and strip out any long range art the foe has.

Of course, some things didn't become public in time for inclusin into the game;

WS-1B

SCAIC continued the WS-1 development in the 1990s and introduced the improved WS-1B in the late 1990s. The WS-1B mainly targeted the foreign customers and was actively marketed by Beijing-based China National Precision Machinery Corporation (CPMIEC). Again the weapon system failed to attract any buyer. Compared to the WS-1, the WS-1B features an increased range of 180km. A WS-1B rocket battalion is equipped with:

* DZ-4B firing command truck (5 men): 1;
* HF-4B rocket launch truck (3 men): 6~9;
* QY-4B transport and loading truck (3 men): 6~9;
* Type 702 high-altitude meteorological radar (3 men): 1;
* Rockets per launch truck: 40~60;

WS-2

During the 2004 Zhuhai Air Show, SCAIC revealed its latest WS-2 multiple launch rocket system. The weapon is fitted with 6 box-shape launchers and fires 400mm rockets to a maximum range of 200km. The WS-2 is fitted with a primitive cascade inertial terminal guidance to compensate the degraded accuracy cause by the long distance flight of the rocket. A WS-1E rocket battalion is equipped with:

* Firing command truck (5 men): 1;
* Rocket launch truck (3 men): 6;
* Tansport and loading truck (3 men): 6~9;
* Rockets per launch truck: 30~48;
The new WS-2 would reach a little further ;)

Of course, someone could always add it to the equpment file...

Im used to 5 and 6, but 12 was very funny.

Countries tend to buy artillery that can actually hit something.

At a couple of hundred klicks, you are looking at a CEP of several kilometers -- you'd be lucky to "hit" a city sized target.

As such, the game units are a bit over-rated....and so are several of the FROG/SCUD units that esentially suffer from the same problem.
