Hey, Im new as a registered user, but Ive lurked for a while. Figured I could start by asking about my own home region. Im from Norway, will there be a scandinavia/northern Europe map? In fact I dont think Ive seen any screenshots of any european region...

Oh, and you guys ever played SSIs "People`s General"? Your stats with soft attack, hard attack and close attack and stuff reminds me of PG.

We deffinitly have looked at People's General. The SSI works are some classic examples of quality war game titles. One of the reasons Supreme Ruler came to be was the desire for a war game that took into account that every army has a homeland. We have taken some ideas from People's General, but we have also looked at dozens of other games to try and get as complete a systme as possible.

As far as any European maps, you are right, we haven't gotten far on these yet. George, our lead programmer, has already said he wants to do the map of Germany (what good is a war game without a German invasion of Poland) and I have been setting up the map for France/Spain/Portugal so that it can get started. We have been leaving most of the maps till last since the game mechanics and interface are more pressing issues. The northern European map will be Norway/Denmark/Sweden/Finand to start. I'm not sure how the player divisions will go but I suspect they will be along current country borders. We expect this map to be more diplomatic than military for victory.

Are you planning to include a map that includes all of europe (from Norway to Spain)?

Unless I got it wrong I heard that you are planning to divide germany into two (?) countries.
How will it be divided and what will be the story for this ?

Isnt progressively larger scenarios a big part of the game? Im guessing that somewhere between scandinavia and the world there would be a entire-Europe map...

And I got the impression they are dividing every country that is large enough to be divided...hm, can you play Scottland?

David or Chris will have to answer the questions of how we divide up Germany or the UK in their own 'starting level' scenarios, but yes there is a full Europe Map, from Spain and Italy up to the Nordics. It will be a 7-player scenario.

Though one thing about Europe, it is shaped funny. Very hard to get a full Europe looking good in a flat map.

Of course, not as bad as Alaska - now THAT is a map scaling nightmare. Every map projection you look at has Alaska as a different shape and size. And Chris didn't like my idea of covering all northern lands with a new ice age glaciation. (Though I guess those of you in Sweden and Norway wouldn't really be happy with that anyways.)

But yes, to return to the original question, full-Europe should be one of the more interesting scenarios to play, it has a bit of everything. (Including, of course, a few thousand years of history of conflicts to build upon.)

Glad to hear you are giving us a chance to play the nordic countries! And I'm sure happy to learn that the emphasis in this are diplomatic! Thanks, I am waiting in excitement for this game
